Celebrating Community Culture at Cross Country Carnival

A buzz of excitement covered the Hillcrest Oval on Friday, 20 March, as our students geared up for their annual Cross Country event.

In the JLC

The exhilaration and excitement was palpable across the JLC cohort, and was amplified this year by our first ever fun run ‘Dash’ for our Prep - Year 2s. After a rousing Opening Ceremony, we cheered loudly for our youngest students as they sped around the oval in a frenzy of colour. It was an incredible mark of Hillcrest’s community culture, as our older students led our excited Preppies down the track and across the finish line. Our Year 1 and 2 students all sprinted off the starting line, eager to make history in their inaugural Hillcrest Dash. After many tense and hard-fought races, we cheered our Years 3 - 7 students around the track throughout the morning. Carmichael successfully powered through with boundless enthusiasm to dominate the other Houses in the JLC carnival this year. Well done to all of our runners for putting in their best efforts throughout the event.

In the SLC

Our Hillcrest House groups marched onto the Oval with pride, shouting their war cries as they entered the Carnival arena. This year’s Senior Cross Country Carnival promised to be bigger and better than ever before, with new competitions like Tug of Sponge, Mystery Bucket and Ultimate Relays. House spirit was ever present, as hundreds of students ran in the 2km Cross Country race, not just to win but to have fun and support each other. Highlights of the day included the students throwing wet, soapy sponges at their friends during the Tug of Sponge; and the food drive which was a huge success. Participation in the food drive and activity rotations was rewarded with house points, and Taylor took out the House Spirit trophy, while Greene reigned supreme as the SLC Carnival winners for 2018.On behalf of the staff and students, we would like to thank the Year 12 students, who organised and supervised the track and activities, and Mr Coetzee who organised and oversaw everything (written in collaboration with Stephanie Phelps, Year 11 student).

Congratulations to all of our 2018 Cross Country Carnival winners!
