Our JLC and SLC Chess Players Put Through Their Paces

It has been a busy time for Chess players in the JLC and SLC at Hillcrest. A group of our SLC chess experts visited Somerset College recently to compete in the Gardiner Chess Term 1 Interschool Tournament. They had a great time, while performing to a high standard. Of particular note were Jacob Duduc, Luca Nathan, Jed Gregory and Hayden Hughes, who came second as a team in B Division. Hayden was particularly impressive, placing second individually, following a tense, climactic victory with 0:01 seconds left on his clock.

Hillcrest was also very honoured to host 187 Years 2-6 Chess students for the Gardiner Chess Term 1 Interschool Tournament on Wednesday, 7 March, with 12 local schools represented during the event. It was a fabulous day, with other schools commenting on how wonderful it was to be inside an air-conditioned and immaculate facility. Our students enjoyed playing on their College grounds, with success going to Tim Gregory, Matthew Grove, Finn Tragear and Kade Bell individually. Standout performances were also made by Niamh Duffy, who placed third individually in C Division, and Nathan Grosser, Levi Hunt, Elliot Ley and Finn Garrett, who achieved first place as a team, in C Division. Thanks to every one who took part and helped with running the tournament.
