2019 Founders Day Celebration

On Tuesday, 28 May, SLC students and staff participated in a Founders Day Assembly. This annual event is our College's opportunity to come together and express our gratitude to Hillcrest's founders who showed great wisdom and ambition in establishing a Christian school out of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. It was a time of celebration and an occasion to reflect upon the many achievements of our past, as we look toward the future.

We had the privilege of being joined by a panel of community members who have had a long time involvement with the College. These included College Board member Mr Steve Hardy, long-standing parent of the College Mrs Allana Swanson, well known and much-loved staff member, Norman Power, and one of our 2019 Year 12 original students, Savannah Norambuena. We heard some of the stories of the past and how much the College has changed over time.

The assembly was concluded with the College song ‘Shine your light,’ a reflection of our ‘original school charter,’ beautifully sung by Bella Vocé.

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:14-16

This Bible verse encapsulates all that the students sought to underpin in the original Student Charter. The Charter that was written now hangs in the Senior Learning Community Student Support Office and is a reminder of the aspirations of the students of the College, both past and present.
