Multiple Medals at 2019 Surf Lifesaving Champs

The annual Queensland Youth Surf Life Saving Championships is the largest and most prestigious event of its kind for U11-U15 age categories in the State, and sees some of the finest young athletes from around Queensland compete for the coveted titles.

This event showcases individual events from 1km and 2km beach runs, Beach Flags and Sprint, Surf Race and Surf Board events, and also hosts the qualifying teams from Branch Championships for the Beach Relay, Surf Teams, Board Relay and Cameron Relay events.

This year, the Championships took place from 8-10 March at the Burleigh Heads Surf Lifesaving Club, and a number of our Hillcrest students qualified to participate - an awesome accomplishment in itself. Our students are all members of different Surf Lifesaving Clubs across the Gold Coast, and they all performed to their very best, and achieved some outstanding results.

Some results from our Hillcrest students included:
  • Ava Usher received 10 podiums: 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze, making her the highest achieving nipper from U11-U15 males and females!
  • Kai Colless took out the Gold medal for the 1km Beach Run Event. He also made the individual board final, board rescue final and board relay final.

Congratulations to everyone who competed!
