Every student across Prep - Year 12 is a member of one of our four House groups. House groups form a very important part in our House-based culture, which encourages peer support, teamwork, friendly rivalry, and student participation during our many Interhouse Sporting Carnivals throughout the year.

Sports

In the College, we foster a passion for physical activity with an engaging house-based culture, and broad exposure to a variety of sports. These include netball, basketball, tennis, soccer and athletics, and are led by experienced coaches both during and after school. As students progress through the upper years and students can join the competitive interschool sport competition and participate in basketball, netball, soccer, rugby league, hockey, oztag, touch football and AFL.

Our curriculum sports programs include Sports Development for Years 3 - 4 students, interschool sports from Year 5+, and participation in multiple gala days across our target sports which include basketball, netball, AFL, and futsal, and team participation with our Hillcrest basketball and netball clubs.

Students in our Middle & Senior Communities are encouraged to contribute to the positive sporting culture that exists at Hillcrest and can participate in a range of teams, interschool sport competitions, excellence programs and extracurricular activities. Students displaying excellence in pursuits such as swimming, cross country and athletics can join our specialised training programs and may also trial to represent the College at either State and National levels through the Hinterland District Sports Association.

Students may also participate in our Basketball Excellence Program, where Hillcrest’s teams are regarded as amongst the best in Queensland and Australia. Other opportunities for team-based excellence exist within our futsal and netball programs, where Hillcrest competes at a State Championship level each year.

Extracurricular Opportunities

We encourage our junior students to participate in our extracurricular Sparks, Flames and Explosions programs, which provide a breadth of options and are offered before and after school, to offer a cost-effective way for children to develop extracurricular and sports skills, in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

Our Chess, Debating, Public Speaking, Mooting and Art Club programs complement the academic progress of students, while also engaging with the broader community through formal competitions. The Duke of Edinburgh program delivers an opportunity for eligible senior students to engage in Bridge, Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, which expose students to adventurous journeys that challenge them personally, physically and socially.
