Hillcrest Basketball

Hillcrest's Basketball Program is widely recognised as being one of the strongest in Queensland, while also being a competitive force on an Australian Level. The program runs all year round and includes opportunities for all students (Prep-Year 12) to participate. Involvement in the program gives students the capacity to improve their skills and by the time they reach Year 5, regular competitions and tournaments are provided to students. The primary focus of the Hillcrest Basketball Program is to develop the whole child within an inclusive, excellence-based culture.

Major Tournaments
Champion Schools of Queensland (CBSQ)

Champ Schools is the major representative competition for our students in the Senior Learning Community. Only our Open Division 1 Girls and Boys teams are nominated for this tournament, which takes place during the last week of Term 3. All students stay on site in Brisbane for this competition and each team is supported by a Coach and Team Manager. Training for this tournament occurs at the beginning of Term 1 with regular competitions, tournaments and scrimmage matches organised for the best preparation of the Teams.

Australian Schools Championships (ASC)

The Australian Schools Championships is the major Tournament for the U15 Freshman Boys and Girls, and our Emerging U17 Boys and Girls teams. These students train throughout the year in preparation for the tournament that runs in the first week of December.

The ASC is also central to the program of our older students. However, the division of entry is determined by their performance at Champ Schools. Open Teams will only be entered in to the ASC if they are given an invitation to participate in the Championship Division of the Tournament. This generally occurs if they place 1-2 at Champ Schools. If they are not given this invitation, the Director of Sport, Head Basketball Coach and Executive Head of College will determine the feasibility of intermediate teams being taken down for the ASC (for example, U17 Division 1 teams). The decision of this team will be made immediately after CBSQ.

Hoops Downunder

This international Tournament is held in the last weekend on the June/July Holiday period and attracts teams from around the world to compete on the Gold Coast. Hillcrest's Open Division 2 Emerging Boys and Girls teams participate in this tournament.

Major Fundraising Event

Hoops Mania is Hillcrest Basketball’s major fundraising event, which serves to financially support the broader basketball program. It also has the capacity to allow each individual student to draw personal funds from their annual contributions. If embraced to its full potential, families should have minimal out of pocket expenses to send their child to both State and National Championships each year. At the event, students in the basketball program take turns in shooting continuously for 24 hours. To raise money, they gain personal sponsorships for the event and the money raised is either used that year or rolled over to future years. The program operates on the following profit split: 90% Students; 10% Charity. Hoops Mania is open for all students who are part of the Basketball Program at Hillcrest.
