Cancelled

College Activities

 The following activities are suspended or cancelled as of 5:00pm Friday, 20 March. This will be until further notice: 

  • Sports training
  • Sporting competitions
  • Sparks/Flames/Explosions activities will cease at the end of this week. The College is prepared to offer a range of activities appropriate to the current Government guidelines. This will be released to the community on Friday, 20 March. Irrespective of this, the College will be providing a safe environment for students to be supervised after school until 4.30pm to help working parents.  

Specific Details

  • Basketball until the end of Term 3
  • Rugby until the end of Term 3
  • Cross Country Inter-house competitions have been postponed
  • All current AFL competitions have been cancelled or postponed
  • Netball training and club activities have been suspended
  • Interschool Sport competitions have been cancelled for term 2
  • Hinterland, South Coast and Queensland Teams and Trials have been suspended until further notice
  • Futsal is suspended until further notice
  • Mountain bike training will continue off campus, but with a maximum of 8 students at a time


    Representative School Sport

    As our response to COVID-19 is all about containment, the Queensland Government has made the decision to cancel, effective as of 17 March 2020, and until further advice:

    • The representative school sport program which includes district, regional, state, national, interstate and international competitions
    • Queensland School Sport team participation in any national, interstate or international events organised across Australia or internationally

     Performing Arts 

    • All before and after school Co-Curricular Performing Arts rehearsals will be suspended for the remainder of Term 1, effective this Friday, 20 March at 5pm. This includes choirs, bands, string groups, dance group and dramafest. 
    • Senior Years Choir (Years 10-12) and Middle Years Choir (Years 7-9) which normally rehearse during Tuesday’s Life Group time will also be suspended. 
    • Musical rehearsals will finish this week. The College is looking to reschedule the musical in Term 4. The College will issue a Musical update to parents before Monday, 23 March. 

    Academic 

    • The remaining sessions of Year 6 Surf Awareness have been cancelled 
    • The Year 5 DCL Evening next Wednesday 25 March has been cancelled 

    Other Cancellations

    • Year 6 Surf Smart Program
    • Debating competitions in the Senior School
    • All other co-curricular activities 
    • The Hillcrest Gym is currently closed
    • The Pemulwuy Concert (JLC choir) is cancelled
    • Easter celebrations - In Week 10 are cancelled. We are looking at alternative ways to celebrate this culturally significant time of year
    Postponed
    • Representative School Sport as outlined above
    • Basketball Queensland has made the decision to suspend all BQ related programs, events and fixtures until further notice
    • Gold Coast Debating has been postponed until further notice
    • World Scholars Cup
    • JLC Student Led Conferences / Parent Teacher Interviews are postponed. We are exploring alternative dates, and methods of engaging in this event
    • Chocolate Box Fundraiser is postponed until further notice
    • Beach to beach is postponed to later in the year
