2019 Expressions Art & Choral Extravaganza

Monday, 28 October 2019, saw one of our most spectacular events of the College calendar come to life, to provide our community with an impressive showcase of creative and performing arts, both on canvas and on stage. Hillcrest's annual Expressions Art & Choral Extravaganza started with an opportunity for family and friends to peruse our students' visual and creative art, which was displayed in the SLC Art classrooms and SLC Courtyard galleries. Our guests were very impressed by the artistic talents of our students, and were also given the chance to purchase their favourite pieces. Guests were also served free nibbles which had been prepared by our Hospitality students, as they watched impressive live art demonstrations, followed by a presentation of Student Art Excellence Awards.

There were many award recipients for a range of categories this year, with the most notable Principal’s Acquisition Award presented to James Neilson for his photography, and the People’s Choice Award which was won by Monieka Bradford for her re-purposed cello ‘Pulling on Heartstrings.’ Congratulations to our students from across Years 2 - 12 for sharing your beautiful artwork with our guests, and for demonstrating how your artistic skills have improved throughout the year.

Our Choral Extravaganza began at 6.30pm, and the performances involved over 500 choral students from Years 2 – 12, who showcased the pieces they have worked diligently to perfect throughout 2019. Our highly-professional and entertaining performances, showed the continued growth of our Choral program, and we are so proud of students for working together to present such an incredible production. A highlight of the evening was the massed choir, which saw all of our choral students join together for one song.

An event of this magnitude takes a large commitment and sacrifice of many staff, students and family members, and we thank every person who was involved to help make this important cultural event possible. We also appreciate the many family and friends who attended the Extravaganza to support our students for this very special occasion.
