4P Connections Day

On Monday 20 June 2016, 4P held their Connections Day (indigenous studies) where they spied strange 'white swans' arriving on the shores of their land. It was discovered that these swans carried unusual white skinned people dressed in very unusual attire. (Year 4 mainstream classes celebrating Convict Day). The strangest arrival was a four legged creature that could talk! To their amazement they soon realised that the intruders were not just visiting, but intended to settle into colonies. Their first contacts with these new inhabitants were friendly.

Amidst these discoveries we noted the impact of the heavy rain the day before and identified areas showing weathering and erosion. We let our imaginations run wild and even found a message stick from the Rainbow Serpent! Using sandpit trays, they investigated different landscapes and the impact of wind, rain and waves on the landscapes.

Upon returning to our camp, we took up the challenge of 'Fruit Cake Mining' which was scored as a Science assessment. They had to mine their piece of cake for 'rock' samples, identify them, regenerate the mining site (with whipped cream) and submit their rock profiles to the Department of Mining.

The day concluded with some bush tucker (modern day style) and board game playing.
