Commonwealth Day Commemorative Coin unveiling

Today, Hillcrest celebrates Commonwealth Day. This year’s theme is ‘A Peace-building Commonwealth’ and is especially significant because it marks the beginning of the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay. The relay will start at Buckingham Palace and will end at the Gold Coast in April, 2018.

Commonwealth Day is held on the second Monday in March each year. It is an opportunity to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy, equality and to celebrate diversity.

This morning, Year 5 student, Jaeda Power represented Hillcrest at a special Commonwealth Day event where a message from the Queen to the Gold Coast was read out and two specially minted coins for the GC 2018 Games were revealed. Jaeda participated in a flag ceremony proudly holding up the flag for Hillcrest’s adopted commonwealth country, Jamaica.
