Gold, Silver and Bronze for Duke of Edinburgh Expeditioners

Congratulations Makito Suzuki who completed his Gold Duke of Edinburgh, and ‘tag-along’ Angus Wong, who just paddled the entire length of South Stradbroke (and then some) over the last three and half days - Friday to Monday!

In total, they paddled approximately 45km (sometimes against wind and current) starting at the Bundall Arts Centre to South Currigee Campsite, then on to Tipplers Campsite, then on to Russell Island and finally to Cabbage Tree Point. They performed excellently and did themselves, their parents and the College proud! They were totally self-sufficient carrying all their food, cooking and sleeping equipment (and it even stayed dry by the judicious use of plastic garbage bags!) God was also very gracious with beautiful weather!

Congratulations also to our Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh students on completing their Adventurous Journey, a Bushwalking Expedition in Lamington National Park, between the 14th - 16th of October. Lush rainforests, extensive walking tracks and natural beauty make this World Heritage Area, an outstanding place to explore. Carrying a back pack with all of their camping gear (clothing, stove, fuel and food) and a topographical map of the area, along with a route plan, a compass and a radio, each group member took turns in leading their peers on a section of the 42kms covered in three days. Not only did they lead well but they learnt how to work as a team and consider others who may be physically or emotionally challenged. Thank you to Mrs Catherine Baddeley and Mrs Lorna Henderson for their assistance on the expedition and to the parents for collecting their son or daughter at the end at O’Reilly’s.

Congratulations!
