Exciting Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions

SILVER EXPEDITION

Congratulations to Yuxuan (Aurora) Zhang, Molly Swanson, Jaylen Semaan, Brandon Jones, Madeline Abio, Chris Turner, Cassie Prior, Mikaela Matthei Alice Kerr and Luke Halberstadt, who took part in the qualifying journey for their Duke of Edinburgh International Award (Silver Level). These students took on the challenge of a Bushwalking / Kayaking Expedition in Mount Warning/Tweed Valley from Friday, 19 October – Sunday, 21 October, camping overnight at Mount Warning and Greenhills Caravan Park campgrounds.

The physically-demanding weekend of activities began after arriving to Mount Warning Rainforest Park on Friday morning. The group set up camp and Mr Wotton and Mr Baddeley took the students to the top of Mount Warning. At the summit, the clouds cleared, and they could all see the wonders of God’s creation. On Saturday and Sunday, the team kayaked down the Tweed River, finally finishing at Tumbulgum on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to parents for your support and to our Hillcrest staff who facilitated the expedition: Paul Wotton, Wendy Wotton, Steve Baddeley and Cath Baddeley.

BRONZE EXPEDITION

Congratulations to Logan Chapman, Abbey Gibbs, Jack Johnson, Sam Schooley and Maddison Wade for completing their qualifying Journey for their Duke of Edinburgh International Award (Bronze Level). These students took on the challenge of a 32km bushwalking expedition in Lamington National Park over two days, from Friday, 19 October – Saturday 20, October, camping overnight at Green Mountain Campgrounds. Lush rainforests, extensive walking tracks and natural beauty make this World Heritage Area an outstanding place to explore God’s creation. Carrying a backpack with all of their camping gear and a topographical map of the area, each of the students took a turn to lead the expedition, completing the 21km border track from Green Mountain (O’Reilly’s) to Binna Burra on Saturday afternoon. Thank you to our parents for coming to Binna Burra to collect the students, and to our Journey Supervisor Athol Henderson, and support staff Lorna Henderson and Renae Battle.
