Hillcrest Bands and Choirs Take Centre Stage at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod

What an incredible few weeks we have enjoyed in the Performing Arts Department!

Following on from our String Ensembles' success at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, our College Bands and Choirs then took to the stage of the Gold Coast Arts Centre this week.

Our Year 5 Band competed and received a Very Highly Commended Award. This was a great result for our young band, who have only been learning their instruments for 6 months. The Year 6 Band also put on a great performance in the Primary School “B” Grade section, and the Hillcrest Drumline, (Years 7 and 8) competed in the Secondary School Drumline section, performing well against many more senior students. Our Senior Concert Band competed in the Secondary school “B” Grade section, and this concluded their band season. It was rewarding to see so many younger performers rise to the challenge of playing a higher level of music.

Over 400 Hillcrest students represented our College in Choirs, and performed beautifully both on and off stage over the course of the Eisteddfod. From our youngest voices in the Year 2 Chorus, to our Year 10 – 12 Senior Choir, who were named Most Outstanding Secondary Choir of the Choral Eisteddfod, our results across the Choral Season were two 1st places, five 2nd places, one 3rd place and two Very Highly Commended places.

Our Bel Canto Excellence Choir was also announced as Runners-Up in the Premier Grade Harley Mead Award.

Well done Hillcrest Band members and Choristers on all of your excellent performances!
