As a prelude to National Science Week, Hillcrest Christian College participated in a Guinness Book of World Records record-breaking attempt to conduct the largest Science Practical in the world.
The event was overseen by Queensland Chief Scientist, Dr Geoff Garrett, and involved three practicals on magnetic induction, shielding and field strength.
Hillcrest Christian College supplied 61 of the participating (and record-breaking) 2,985 students who had travelled from the Gold Coast to Cairns to be a part of this historical event at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at Southbank, Brisbane.
The ECHO students from Years 7, 8 and 9 were accompanied by ECHO teachers Mrs Stortenbeker and Mrs Coutts, the immutable Mrs Wotton, Teaching Internee, Josh Smith, and the Head of Faculty - Science, Mr Sam Fesuk.
Queensland Premier Palaszczuk said Queensland’s world record success made a positive statement about young peoples’ interest in science.
“I congratulate all the students who have set this impressive GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest practical science lesson. It’s fantastic to see young Queenslanders so enthusiastic about being involved in science,” she said.
