International Student Holiday Excursion

During the first week of holidays, an intrepid group of International Students tempted fate by heading to beautiful sunny Byron Bay for a day of surf, sand and sun; only days after the infamous downpour which started the Easter School Break early for South East Queensland.

The day started great with promising weather as we commenced our South-bound bus trip. Even when we arrived at the Byron Bay Lighthouse and walked to the Eastern-most point of Australia we remain relatively dry. It was at this early point in our road trip that the heavens opened up and rain followed us for the rest of the day. Our sun and sand very quickly turned into shop and eat as we found shelter in the tourist hub of the holiday town. Once we were filled with gelato, pastries and all sorts of goodies we decided to surrender to the elements and find a drier indoor activity.

Ten Pin Bowling was the popular choice, with many from the group having never played before. Bumpers were definitely up and the bowling balls ‘bounced’ their way down each alley with some lucky enough to hit some pins. While the scores weren’t that big, the laughter and cheers definitely were.

Thanks to Mrs Whebell for giving up a day of her holidays to join us in the soggy fun.

Many International Students don’t return to their home countries during the mid-semester 2-week holidays, therefore giving them an opportunity to see a part of Australia outside of the Gold Coast that they may not have an opportunity to see is an important, and fun, service that our Hillcrest International Learning Community provides for our International Students.
