Japanese Students Love Life on the Gold Coast

On Tuesday, 8 October, we welcomed 20 students from Inage High School, Japan. They arrived to the Gold Coast after a few fun days exploring Sydney, and were eager to experience Australian school life. Our student guests were greeted by their Hillcrest host families, and the next morning they arrived back bright and early, ready to start school. The students were paired with Hillcrest buddies, who spent time with them, showed them around the campus and took them to their classes. Our student buddies were exceptional in their ambassadorial roles, and we were so proud of the way they represented our College, our culture, and our country.

Over the ten-day experience, the Inage students spent time integrating in JLC and SLC ESL (English) classes, as well as experiencing some tourist hot spots, including Skypoint, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Jellurgal Aboriginal Centre in Burleigh Heads. Our host families also treated their students to an exciting weekend of activities, and we heard stories of virtual skydiving in Surfers, beach visits, surfing, church services, shopping expeditions, a trip to the Sunshine Coast to see a skateboarding competition, and more! Thanks to our wonderful host families for spoiling the students, and helping to make this such a memorable experience for them in Australia.

They also enjoyed an exciting ice-cream party with their buddies, and will cap off their experience with a special farewell ceremony. Our Hillcrest SLC students also loved learning more about the Japanese culture, and watched a well-prepared cultural presentation by the Inage students about chopsticks, Japanese sweets, dance, martial arts, origami and manga.

The Inage students will leave Australia on Friday, 18 October, returning to their home country with some memories they will treasure for life.
