Let it Snow! Year 9s in Sydney and Canberra

This week our Year 9 students returned from their 2018 Sydney/Canberra snow trip. Dressed in their impressive bright red hoodies, the students experienced a range of exciting activities throughout the week. The students named some of their favourite highlights from the trip:

"The AIS was a very enjoyable experience. We all liked playing the sports, the ‘Sportex’ tour and eating at the cafeteria. The games room was also really fun."

"The snow was an experience that will stay clear in our memories for the rest of our lives. We loved making snowmen, plowing snow up into your friend’s face on the toboggans, and having snowball fights."

"The War Memorial was a place full of information about our country that we found really interesting. We loved every part of that experience."

"We enjoyed spending time with our friends in our camp cabins."

"The bushwalk and stargazing was very peaceful."

"Bike riding alongside Lake Burley Griffith."

"Our Cruise on the Sydney Harbour where we saw a baby whale."

"Questacon – all the interactives; and the show, slide and toys we could buy from the shop."

"Learning how parliament runs and being able to sit in the rooms that we have seen on TV."

Overall, the students all stayed healthy and returned with various stories and many amazing memories from a range of fields. The teachers were very proud of how the students engaged in the activities and positively represented the College.

Students from our College have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributes funding of $60 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
