Oh what a night! Year 12 final festivities and Formal fun

In true Hillcrest style, our graduating Class of 2019 celebrated the end of their learning journey with a day they will never forget.

Friday, 15 November, 2019, marked the end of many years of learning, growth, fun and friendship for our 91 Year 12 students, who worked tirelessly up until the very last assessment, ensuring they had successfully completed all of the academic requirements for their Queensland education, to the best of their ability.

The momentous day started early, with our traditional Valedictory Breakfast in Terrace Hall, where the students and their parents enjoyed a morning of fellowship, food and time to reflect. Breakfast was followed by their Graduation Assembly in the MPC, where students heard some parting words from senior staff and student leaders, were officially honoured as graduates of Hillcrest, and felt many mixed emotions as they sat through their final College assembly. Senior Learning Community students, staff and parents, lined the SLC courtyard to form a Guard of Honour, offering heartfelt hugs, words of encouragement and congratulatory high-fives, as the graduands made their way to the College gates. As they stepped foot out of Hillcrest for the final time as students, they were filled with a surreal and bittersweet realisation that their school life had come to an end. But it wasn’t over yet, as they set off to prepare for their highly-anticipated Formal...

Dozens of family members, friends and staff, lined the red carpet of Mantra Surfers Paradise, eagerly awaiting the arrival of our most recent graduates for the Formal event. Cheers and applause echoed across the foyer, as the luxury vehicles arrived, and our elegant students made a grand entrance along the red carpet. Guests were wowed by the amazing transformation of the Year 12s, who were attired in stunning gowns and tuxedos, for what promised to be an incredible night! And the Formal did not disappoint, thanks to the hard work and planning of Mr Power and the team, every detail was carefully considered to ensure that our Year 12 students ended their Hillcrest experience in the best possible way.

Thanks to so many members of our community who have imparted their faith, wisdom, knowledge, love and support into the lives of these students. You have helped to shape these young people into the mature and integrous young adults they have now become, and we are confident that they will venture into the world with a personal faith in Jesus, and prepared for a life that is filled with exciting possibilities, trusting that God has a wonderful plan for their lives.

It really does take a village to raise a child, and today we honoured our children, and our Hillcrest 'village.' Thank you all!
