Samsung Primary Schools Netball Cup (State Championships) 2016

More than 100 Queensland primary schools battled it out for the chance to be crowned state champion at the Samsung Primary Schools Cup at Ipswich Netball Association this last weekend.

The tournament is the biggest school-based primary school competition in Queensland and saw more than 1000 games of netball contested in an inclusive competition format featuring female, male and mixed teams aged between grades four to six.

Our Hillcrest team sure represented our school with incredible team spirit, sportsmanship, drive, determination and skill. As coach, I received numerous compliments from umpires and other coaches congratulating our athletes on this.

With an almost perfect run both days - undefeated on all but one game where we went down by one goal - our for and against percentages were the second highest of all Div 1 before finals, even above Matthew Flinders who went on to win finals. No other teams in the Div 1 who finished second in their pools like Hillcrest did, came as close to winning as we did. So I would like to unofficially make the call that Hillcrest came 5th in the State.

I would like to thank Shireen Geddes, our Team Manager for her incredible organisation skills and making it possible for me to focus purely on coaching. I would also like to thank all of the parents and Peter Hauch for your support and encouragement leading up to and over the tournament. We sure had a loud cheering side line. Thank you Clear Smile Orthodontics for sponsoring our Hillcrest Netball Excellence teams. Thank you to our Captain, Brielle Reeves, and Vice Captain, Ezekiel Stortenbeker, who led our troops by example and with such a positive energy. And thank you so much to all of our star players! They have all progressed so much throughout the year with their commitment and work ethic, that I was able to see them all at their absolute best over the weekend. I'm incredibly grateful to play a role in that.

This weekend is evident that Hillcrest netball is on the rise and we will be a school that others will be looking out for.
