Students Compete in International Maths Challenge

This year, Hillcrest entered a team of students into the International Mathematical Modelling Challenge (IMMC). This is a rigorous competition that involves teams of students from around the world, who are tasked with devising a solution to a real-world mathematical scenario. In their team of four, the students have five days to write a report outlining their solution.

This year’s IMMC scenario was What is the Earth’s carrying capacity for human life? And our team of Year 8 students (L-R below) Riley Bayldon, Matthew Young, Michael Mallet and Zachariah McIndoe, all worked tirelessly throughout the five days, while continuing to meet all of their school requirements.

The students submitted their response to this scenario, and I am really proud of their tenacity and focus in working together to define a justifiable solution.
