Sweet Success at State Basketball Championships

Basketball Queensland held the Champion Basketball Schools of Queensland (CBSQ) tournament in the recent school holidays, with four days of intense competitions taking place from 19 – 22 September, in Logan. The event has been running since 1974, and attracts participation from secondary schools across the state each year, with over 120 teams competing across several open-age divisions. This year, Hillcrest entered a Senior Boys and Senior Girls team into the tournament, and went into the competition feeling confident that they were ready to perform their best on court, and showcase the supportive Hillcrest Knights culture.

The girls performed beautifully as a team throughout their matches, and successfully finished all of their games with convincing wins. They entered the Senior Girls Finals match against St Margaret Mary’s College, with confidence in their team’s abilities, and led by their coach Pero Cameron, won the match 84-68 to claim the 2019 Gold Medal. The impressive performance of our Senior Girls has qualified them for the Championship Division at the Australian Schools Championships Nationals coming up in December. Well done girls!

Our Senior Boys fought valiantly throughout their games, and showed real grit and determination against some very tough competition. After a few unfortunate losses, the Senior Boys came out in ninth place overall. Well done boys for your excellent display of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Thank you to our hard-working players, our committed Basketball parents, and our coaches for their dedication to the Hillcrest Basketball program.
