I Love Reading (ILR) is a valuable program for Hillcrest and it is important that the College community understands why it has our support.
The College, through ILR, has developed a unique literacy program designed to facilitate the rapid learning of reading English. The program takes the English Phonetic Code, technology developed by the Mamone family, and packages it into a practical and easily understood resource for literacy development. This program is used extensively and successfully at the College and has also been sold to schools across Australia.
I Love Reading Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hillcrest Christian College Ltd. The business is funded by the College and reports to our Board, and any profits ILR makes will flow back to Hillcrest. While the business is at an early stage of development, the program is delivering exciting results for young readers and has strong support from teaching staff, and is attracting interest from other schools.
The financial accounts of Hillcrest Christian College are independently audited each year. For the year ending 31 December 2018, the audit found that Hillcrest remains in a very strong financial position after providing funding for ILR, and making repayments on loans on our facilities.
We are proud of the ILR program and believe it has the potential to be a successful business under the control of the College. The program contributes to improving educational opportunities for all students as part of our ongoing commitment to Educational Excellence.
