Welcome to 2018 - From the Executive Head of College

Welcome to the 2018 school year at Hillcrest. I trust that you had a refreshing break and enjoyed spending time with your children during the holiday period. It has been wonderful to see our College come to life this week with the energy and enthusiasm of our 2018 student cohort and teachers.

The 2017 Year 12 results were published over the Christmas break and our students achieved some amazing results, with two Hillcrest students achieving OP 1s, more than 70% receiving an OP 1-10, and 94% receiving an OP 1-15. We also had 37 students successfully complete their Certificate and Diploma courses, their pathway to employment, or further education. I would like to acknowledge the dedication of our Senior Learning Community staff in supporting our Year 12s and ensuring they have received the best possible opportunity to succeed beyond Hillcrest.

As many of our returning families can attest, the past three years have been a time of tremendous growth for our College. In fact, we have been one of the fastest growing Independent schools in Australia, and this week we welcomed 251 new students and 172 new families into our College community.

We have now reached 1,420 student enrolments, the largest number in Hillcrest’s history and very close to our maximum capacity. This rapid growth is in part due to our innovative approach to learning, and to families seeking out our Christ-centred values. We are excited that so many families are selecting Hillcrest for their child’s education and we remain committed to building a college of exceptional quality.

Hillcrest continues to attract some of the highest quality staff, and this year 22 new staff members joined our College. The synergy of new staff, and our amazing long-serving staff members, has created a professional and talented faculty of teachers and administrators who are outstanding, innovative and student-focussed.

As a College community, 2018 looks very bright, with a range of exciting programs being further developed and rolled out this year. You will be pleased to know that the College has no building plans for the start of this year as we settle in and enjoy the amazing new facilities that were completed late last year. We will be considering some projects throughout 2018, including the P-2 playground, renovations to Years 3-4 classrooms and the development of a new indoor sports facility, but I will keep you abreast of these developments as the year progresses.

Our focus this year will be on strengthening our supportive community culture through Life Groups and House-based programs, developing our new and existing innovative programs, such as our I Love Reading program and one2one Digital Device program, and making the most of our amazing learning facilities.

We wish every student and staff member a very blessed year, and look forward to seeing all that God has planned for Hillcrest Christian College throughout 2018.

Blessings,

Jeff Davis
