Year 10 Students Test the Water

On Wednesday, 12 February, our Year 10 Earth and Environmental Science students visited the Toohey Forest Environmental Education Centre at Griffith University's Nathan Campus. The Freshwater Studies Excursion was a whole-day program which involved investigating the health of freshwater ecosystems. Students used a data logger to measure and record information on physical and chemical properties of a waterway. Aquatic animals and plants were collected using sampling nets and identified using stereo microscopes and classification keys. This data was analysed to determine patterns and relationships between abiotic and biotic data to determine the water quality between two Queensland waterways.
