Year 2 Sculpture Crawl

Despite dreary, overcast conditions, Monday, 27 February saw two bus loads of effervescent, excited Year 2’s set off to explore the Coast from Currumbin to Southport, in search of significant sculptures, landmarks and memorials. We went to great heights to see Aqua Solaire, drove round round-a-bouts to view The Man on the Bike, sailed along esplanades to spot Elephant Rock and The Gateway to Surfers Paradise (it’s made of galvanised steel you know!), listened with great respect to stories of soldiers who fought fearlessly for our country and scaled the Kokoda Track War Memorial at the Cascade Gardens. It was a wonderful expedition which left us tired, but much more aware of local landmarks and memorials and how they help to keep the past alive.
