Year 3 Goes Bananas

This term the Year 3s have been looking at procedures in our English Genre lessons. We have learned about what procedures look like, when to use them, why they are used and the language features that are best to explicitly write them.

The students worked as a class to write a procedure on ‘How to Blow a Balloon’ last week. The students learned that giving clear instructions was the only way to get the balloon blown up properly. It was very fun and funny to watch!

The students then moved on to creating a procedure on ‘How to make a Banana Split’. Once this was completed, the classes had a range of celebrities: Mrs Foster-Brown, Mrs Lewis, Mrs Shey, Mrs Geyer and Mrs Ochsner come into our classes and try to make a Banana Split. First they used a set of unclear instructions to remind everyone of the importance of clear, specific instructions. As you can see, they had a rather fun but messy time!

Then we asked our guests to follow the procedures written by our fantastic students, with great result. Finally we enjoyed our own mini-banana splits afterwards as a treat. It was a BUNCH of fun!
