Year 3 Students Step Back in Time

Hillcrest's Year 3EA and 3HC stepped back in time during their excursion to Beenleigh Historical Village last week, and were amazed to discover how much life has changed over the past 150 years.

The students experienced “wash day,” which involved washing clothes by hand, and wringing them out through the Mangle. They also visited the “logging camp” to learn about the life of local timber loggers, and discovered how tiring it was to use a Two Man Cross Saw to cut up timber.

Later in the day they enjoyed being able to tour a 100-year-old school building where they discovered historic learning methods, including writing on slates, and learning by rote.

Students loved the opportunity for hands-on learning at the Beenleigh Historical Village, and had a very memorable day!
