Hillcrest's Year 3 classes stepped back in time during their recent excursions to Beenleigh Historical Village, and they were amazed to discover how much life has changed over the past 150 years.
The students experienced 'wash day,' which involved washing clothes by hand, and wringing them out through the Mangle. They also visited the 'logging camp' to learn about the life of local timber loggers, and discovered how tiring it was to use a Two-Man Cross Saw to cut up timber. Later in the day they enjoyed being able to tour a 100-year-old school building where they discovered historic learning methods, including writing on slates, and learning by rote. The day concluded with a small group exploration of the whole site, where teams searched to answer riddle clues by finding particular olden-day treasures and locations.
