2019 Kokoda Challenge

Four Hillcrest teams, including 15 Hillcrest students and four Hillcrest staff, took part in the Kokoda Challenge from July 20 - 21, 2019. This was the first time that our College has participated in this Challenge, and the group spent many hours training for their long-distance hike.

Our tenacious teams completed either the 96km or 48km track through the grueling Gold Coast Hinterland, and every participant demonstrated the Kokoda values of 'endurance, courage, mateship and sacrifice.' We congratulate our students and staff for demonstrating real grit and determination, as they pushed through the difficult moments to cross the line having victoriously conquered this physically, mentally and emotionally demanding mission. Overall in the 96km event, 31 teams finished, while 18 did not finish. In the 48km event, 131 teams finished, while 26 did not complete the course.

The Hillcrest teams trekked in support of the Kokoda Youth Foundation which raises funds for disadvantaged youths in Australia, and they collectively raised over $2,500 for the cause.

Many thanks to our wonderful parents who worked all night as support crew to ensure that every participant was still smiling, despite the body aches on Monday morning.
