World Scholars Cup Team's Success in the States

It was an action-packed week of travel, exploration and healthy competition for our World Scholar’s Cup team, consisting of Eathan Waters, Alexis Chau and Samara Ballinger. Our talented trio qualified for the competition's coveted 2019 Global Round, and ventured to America this week to compete against 1,500 of their fellow scholars who all converged at Yale University, for an exciting five days of competition.

Twelve months of regional rounds across 60 countries, involving 34,000 junior scholars in 12,000 teams, all came down to this final round, where only 500 remaining teams competed against some of the most intelligent young people from all over the world.

After an initial day of travel, they landed in America and braved the sub-zero temperatures to explore new sites, and enjoy some local delicacies, before launching into the Tournament of Champions competition.

Following four team challenges, multiple individual events and other activities, our students were pleased with their efforts, and concluded the Global Round with the Closing Ceremony and Awards presentation.

Well done to our students for achieving such incredible results, and for consistently representing Hillcrest with integrity, in the high pressure environment. Thanks to Jacques Du Toit, our Director of Academic Operations, who accompanied the group and who has been instrumental in running this program for Hillcrest in 2019.

The group pass on their appreciation for all the support and encouragement they received from the College community over the past few weeks, and look forward to sharing many more amazing stories from this very special experience.
