Taz Traill Named Youth Volunteer of the Year

Volunteering Services Australia held their annual Gold Coast Volunteer Awards at HOTA on Saturday, 25 May, and welcomed over 190 guests to the special event to celebrate and pay recognition to Gold Coast volunteers, not-for-profit organisations and community projects. Councillor Gary Baildon AM, Division 7 the East of the City of Gold Coast, officially opened the evening and praised volunteers for their continuous dedication and hard work that contributes to the community and not-for-profit organisations.

There were six prestigious awards presented on the evening, and Hillcrest's Year 2 student, Taz Traill was awarded the Youth Volunteer of the Year for his work with humanitarian charity Walk with Us, and for motivating many of his peers to volunteer. At 8 year of age, Taz was the youngest winner in the history of the Awards, and showed that regardless of age, anyone can make positive changes to benefit their community.

Simon Nugus, CEO of Volunteering Services Australia, commented that 'Every volunteer nominated was incredibly inspiring, so to choose three finalists in each category was difficult, let alone deciding the winners.'

Congratulations Taz and keep up the great work!

Every volunteer that celebrated National Volunteer Week and the Gold Coast Volunteer Awards with their peers, were able to shine. It is ever so humbling and we are so grateful to have so many volunteers on the Gold Coast.
