Update from the Board of Directors

Dear College Community,

The Hillcrest Christian College Board of Directors wishes to assure you that we remain focused on providing exceptional learning and pastoral care for our students.

As you may be aware, in recent weeks the College has been the subject of some media scrutiny. This has put considerable stress on our Directors and senior College staff, and has been very time consuming.

We are pleased that these matters have had little effect on the day-to-day operation of the College, the welfare of our students and on the high standard of education we provide.

We thank and support the Executive Head of College, Mr Jeff Davis, and other College leaders for their strength and faith during this challenging time. We also thank our teaching staff who remain focused on their important work with Hillcrest’s students.

Under the guidance of the new Co-Chair, Reverend Ken Conwell, the College Board is continuing to address the issues that have been raised in the media and by members of the College community, and we aim to have them resolved as quickly as possible.

Independent investigations are continuing into allegations against two senior staff. To ensure we are acting in full accordance with the law and in line with our Christian values, the Board has sought professional legal advice, and counsel from Queensland Baptists. In fairness to the people concerned, the College will not make any further comment on these matters until the investigations are completed.

The Board would like to remind the College community of two important points from our College Mission which we can all seek to achieve:

  • Have knowledge to discern what is good and have the skills and the spirit to commit to action for a better society.
  • Demonstrate self-discipline, integrity and compassion.

We would like to thank our community for your continuing support of the College and our Mission.
