Kate van Bruggen Recognised in State Awards

On Saturday 18 February 2017, top performing students in Queensland in 2016 were recognised by the Education Minister in a special ceremony at the State Library.

2016 is the third year that the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority recognised the State’s top academic achievers. A panel of Principals, along with QCAA, selected 30 out of the State’s 2016, 600 OP1 students. These students were the highest academic achievers across their subjects, QCS test results and other related achievements. These 30 students are the top 0.01% of the state.

At the Queensland State Library on Saturday, the Education Minister, Hon Kate Jones MP, presented Kate van Bruggen with an award for being one of these top achievers. Kate was one of only two students who have chosen to specialise in Law and Humanities. The other 28 students were Science, Technology and Mathematics awardees.

Kate was recognised for, among other things, the fact that she achieved an OP1 and also VHA 10 in all of the six subjects she studied in Year 12. This is the highest possible grade that can be awarded in each of these subjects. Kate has also been awarded a Bond University Vice-Chancellor’s full scholarship to study a double degree in Law and International Relationships.

Kate's aspiration on graduating is to work for the United Nations in the areas Law and International Relations.

As a community, Hillcrest congratulates Kate on this achievement and looks forward to hearing of her future achievements.
