Layers of Learning - Professional Responsibility

Quality Teaching and Learning at Hillcrest Christian College

Over the past 12 months we have been working to develop a clear, research-based teaching and learning framework that identify key standards for our teachers. Our Layers of Learning Framework is a set of broad guidelines relating to quality teacher practices and represents the way we teach at Hillcrest Christian College. The framework reflects our College cornerstones and our commitment to a consistent and effective teaching approach so that all students have the best opportunity to learn and reach their full potential.

Over the upcoming newsletters we will explore each of the 6 Layers of Learning in more details.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Our first Layer of Learning is Professional Responsibility. Our teachers’ professionalism and high standard of ethical conduct is an important foundation to quality teaching. Professional Responsibility goes beyond the legal requirements expected by governmental bodies. It also includes the responsibility each teacher has to help fulfil the mission of Hillcrest Christian College, by upholding the College cornerstones of God centred education, academic excellence, integrity and evangelism.

Professional Responsibility - Teacher Practice:

As Hillcrest Christian College teachers we aim to:

P1 demonstrate a proactive commitment to the mission of the College.

P2 develop a broad and in-depth knowledge of subject content and the underpinning Biblical worldview.

P3 understand how students develop and learn.

P4 plan and structure lessons and units to support rigorous learning outcomes.

P5 take an active responsibility for professional learning to improve student outcomes.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FRAMEWORK

Along with our Layers of Learning Framework we have also developed our new Professional Learning Framework. This gives our teachers guided opportunities to develop professionally. It demonstrates our culture of intentional, active learning, based on College directed and individually set goals in order to ensure the learning experiences and opportunities offered to our students live up to our motto of ‘Excellence in Christ’.
