Poco Voce performs at Voices from the Trenches Festival

Last weekend our newest and youngest Choral Excellence Choir, Poco Voce, travelled to Brisbane to participate in the Voices from the Trenches Choral Festival. Six schools and three community ensembles were invited to perform at this special event which commemorated people who fought in the First World War. In addition to singing two of their own songs, Poco Voce was also involved in a massed finale which saw more than 300 singers performing songs from the World War 1 era. A standing ovation from an audience of approximately 800 people at the end of the concert was truly well-deserved.

It was particularly exciting for us that the composer of one of the songs we performed, Four Hundred Seasons, travelled to Brisbane to especially watch the performance.

In the weeks leading up to the concert the Year 6 Poco Voce students, facilitated by Mrs Tosca Nathan undertook a project to create a 90 second visual representation of how World War 1 applies to the Hillcrest community. The result was truly beautiful and I commend the Year 6’s on their fantastic efforts to produce such a professional and moving presentation which was shown on Saturday evening during the concert.

Thankyou to Mrs Julli, Mrs Kilpatrick and Mr Kissick for your assistance with the choir and to Mrs Nathan for all your work behind the scenes.
