Regional Readers Cup 2017

Hillcrest Christian College was honoured to host the Regional Readers Cup again this year, with 27 teams in attendance from schools across the Gold Coast region. It was a wonderful night of friendly rivalry, as schools were pitched against each other for the privilege of representing the Gold Coast at the State Finals in September.

Hillcrest’s year 5/6 team included Riley Bayldon, Luca Nathan, Kaela Tapper, Giselle Chow and Chloe Chan, who scored highly throughout each round, but Benowa State School successfully took out the top prize for 2017.

During the event, our College was presented with the perpetual Regional Readers Cup trophy to keep, having won the most competitions of any school over the past nine years. This trophy will be displayed at Hillcrest and symbolises the success of our students, and their passion for reading.

Many thanks to the Hillcrest P&F Association for their tireless efforts in supporting this event, and catering for our visiting schools. Thanks also to Dr Cameron Stelzer who spoke to the teams during the event, and provided some insight on the journey of an author and illustrator.

We will be back with a vengeance next year… ready to dominate the new trophy!
