Sports Update May 2017

Senior Learning Community Athletics Carnival

This year the Senior Learning Community will be trialling a new format for their Inter House Athletics Carnival. Instead of running over two days, this year the carnival will be compacted in to one extended day format. The carnival will be held on Wednesday 21st June and will run from 9:00am to 6:00pm, with some early events starting from 8:00am. The carnival will be compulsory for all Senior Learning Community students for its full duration. A letter with further details has been sent to all SLC parent email addresses.

District Cross Country Carnival

On Thursday 17th May more than 60 students from Years 4-12 represented Hillcrest at the Hinterland Green District Cross Country Carnival at Runaway Bay. In beautiful weather conditions, Hillcrest students competed to an exceptionally high standard, with unofficial results indicating one of the largest teams progressing to Regionals since the creation of the new Hinterland District. Confirmed results will be published in the coming times, but this is exciting for our student athletes, in particular those who have been participating in Hillcrest’s Running program on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Well done to all who participated.

Coomera Futsal Cup

On Thursday 11th May Hillcrest’s U11 Futsal Team travelled north for a night of competition at the annual Coomera Cup Futsal Tournament. The boys competed valiantly and proved why they are an up and coming force on the Futsal stage in South East Queensland. Despite missing out on progressing to the finals by one goal, the boys displayed great character and resilience throughout the night. A special thanks to coach Glynn Boyd and all the parent helpers who made the tournament a success.

Team: Nicholas Boler, Drew Lynett, Sabian Norambuena, Noah Parnaby, Boston Peters, Kai Pyyvaara, Josiah Semaan.

Queensland School Sport - Netball

Congratulations to Olivia Dijkstra (GS) who represented Hillcrest as part of the South Coast 18 Years and Under Netball Team at the recent Queensland Schools Netball Championships. Olivia performed exceptionally well, shooting a remarkable 96% throughout the whole tournament. This is an outstanding effort for a girl who was double underage in the tournament.

Hillcrest Netball Club

This year Hillcrest has seven teams in the Hinterland Saturday Netball competition between 7 years – 11 years. It has been a delight to see our club culture grow as students play passionately for their school with their friends. Each team is developing week after week and it is exciting to see their skills develop from such a young age. The junior coaches (Maddie Blackwell, Hannah Stortenbeker and Zali Welsh) are to be commended for the love for netball they are instilling into our young girls. We will have some school holiday netball clinics in the school holidays open to all club girls and any other girls from Year 1 – Year 6 so keep an eye out for more information.
