Timber and Woodworking Show

On Friday 27th May 2016 Year 12 Technology Studies travelled by train to the Timber and Woodworking Show at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane.

They saw demonstrations of the very latest in woodworking technology including saw stop table circular saws, CNC routers, laser cutters and digitally speed controlled lathes, as well as traditional wood turning Lathes.

There were many excellent pieces of fine craftsmanship with projects ranging from clocks, pens, carvings, timber boats, musical instruments, bowls, scroll saw work and laser cut integral hinges used in timber books.

The tools and equipment on display and for sale, were of the finest standard, especially the Japanese Dovetail saws. Some students purchased sample timbers from the yard outside to bring back to the College with the intention of designing and making some fine pieces for themselves, as a memento of the occasion.

They all agreed it was a very worthwhile day away from the classroom and wished they all had a spare few hundred dollars on them, to purchase even more selected hardwood timbers.

Oh well, they could come back next year…
