Year 12 Tech Studies Excursion - Wood Expo

On Friday 26 May 2017, Year 12 Technology Studies students travelled by train to the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds. The Timber and Woodworking Show has been a feature for Woodworkers and Wood turners for the last 10 years. There were many exhibitors displaying a wide range of related timber manufacturing equipment such as, CNC routers, laser cutters, table saws, thicknessers, drop saws, wood turning lathes and many more. There was a huge number of works on display from turned bowls, clocks, dishes, toys, containers, ornaments etc. We even managed to bring home a free sample of a plywood laser cut cube. As the students are currently making a free choice project of their own design they were able to bring back many ideas and witnessed many different “finishes” that can be applied to their final product. We will purchase some “pour on gloss” product and try it out. It leaves a very shiny and perfectly flat finish which looks fantastic. Though, there was a slight delay in the train on the way up to Brisbane as the driver had to be changed, overall we had a great day out.
