Year 5 Leadership: Prep Mini Olympics

Students in Year 5 have been exploring the ideas behind the Modern Olympic Movement this term in Health, looking at Piere Fredy’s belief that the Olympics could bring about world peace. As part of their Health and leadership unit, students in Year 5 put together a Prep Mini Olympic which reinforced the Olympic Creed – that the Olympics is not about winning, but about taking part. They worked in teams to organise and run modified Olympic events for the prep students, modelling the understanding that they can influence other people’s attitude and behaviours in sports. The Year 5 students enjoyed encouraging the Prep students to ‘give it a go’ and try their best. It was clear to see that both older and younger students thoroughly enjoyed the time participating in kicking, running, jumping, catching and a whole lot more physical fun. It was fantastic to see the bonds being created between the students across the year levels and the encouragement and support of each other.
