About Our Sporting Culture

The Prep - Year 12 Sport and Cocurricular program at Hillcrest Christian College is designed to encourage participation by all students, with clear avenues for excellence and refinement. It seeks to reinforce the cultural expectations of inclusiveness, acceptance and encouragement, with students being challenged to better themselves physically and emotionally, and to also develop the greatest possible character through their experiences. The purpose of the Sport and Cocurricular program at Hillcrest is to provide every student the opportunity to participate and excel.

School Sport - District | South Coast | Queensland | Australia

Hillcrest is a member of the Hinterland Green District Sports Association, which enables students to trial as individuals in a variety of different sports. By trialling, students have the potential to progress in those sports to a District, South Coast, Queensland and/or Australian level. Trial dates for these sports are advertised below and reminders are sent through the Hillcrest Sport Facebook Page

Students trialling in any sport must fill out the Student Information Sheet and return it to the Sports Office by the due date set for each trial. Failure to do so may result in the student being refused the opportunity to trial.

Hillcrest Basketball

Hillcrest's Basketball Program is widely recognised as being one of the strongest in Queensland, while also being a competitive force on an Australian Level. The program runs all year round and includes opportunities for all Prep - Year 12 students to participate. Involvement in the program gives students the capacity to improve their skills and by the time they reach Year 5, regular competitions and tournaments are provided to students. The primary focus of the Hillcrest Basketball Program is to develop students within an inclusive, excellence-based culture.

See our Basketball Program page for all information relating to this program.

Chess
The Chess Program

Chess at Hillcrest has seen remarkable growth and refinement over the past two years with opportunities for personalised tuition being offered during and outside of school hours. This focus on personalised tuition has reaped incredible dividends, with Hillcrest being crowned Gold Coast Champions in 2016 within the Junior Learning Community.

While the core focus has been building a strong foundation of Chess in the Junior Learning Community, all Senior Learning Community students have the opportunity to gain targeted training during Thursday Sport and Cocurricular time (12:30-2:30pm). SLC students elect to be part of this program during the Sport and Cocurricular nominations.

Gardiner Chess

To further build our Chess at Hillcrest, we are excited to be offering Chess lessons to students from Yr 1 – Yr 6. These will be conducted by the experienced coaches provided by GARDINER CHESS, the premier Chess coaching organisation in Queensland.
